Full-service general contractor and construction manager

serving New England since 1973.

More than fifty years of building trust, one project at a time.

Hutter Construction Corporation was founded in 1973 in New Ipswich, New Hampshire. What began as a local contracting firm has grown into one of the region's most respected construction companies operating across New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Maine, and Vermont.

We don't chase volume. We build quality relationships and the kind of work that speaks for itself decades later.

Our approach is simple. We hire exceptional people, invest in them, and give them the tools and autonomy to do their best work. We self-perform several of our own trades, which means tighter quality control, faster schedules, and a level of craftsmanship that sets us apart.

This is why roughly half our staff have been with us for ten years or more. It's also why clients keep coming back.

OUR HISTORY

Our History

Alvan and James Traffie, founders of Hutter Construction, grew up in Hutter, an unincorporated township in Minnesota, about 60 miles north of Duluth in the renowned Mesabi Range.

They came to New Hampshire in the 1960s seeking work, bringing with them a strong Scandinavian work ethic and deep faith. After honing their construction skills working for others, they incorporated Hutter Construction Corporation in July 1973 to provide general contracting services for building projects.

Hutter began with small renovation projects and masonry work, but by the late 1970s, the company expanded into general contracting, design-build, and construction management for larger projects—a growth pattern that continues today. From an original workforce of just Al and Jim and first-year sales of $150,000, Hutter has grown to over 200 full-time employees and annual sales exceeding $130 million.
